Juventus have overtaken Napoli in the race to sign free agent Jonathan David, as the Canadian striker nears a decision on his next club.
Jonathan David is set to become one of the hottest names on the free agent market, and Juventus have now taken the lead over rivals Napoli in the race to sign the prolific Canadian striker.
After officially saying goodbye to Lille, the 24-year-old forward will be out of contract at the end of June, sparking a flurry of interest from across Europe. His proven goal-scoring ability, versatility, and status as a free agent make him an attractive target for clubs looking to strengthen their attack without paying a transfer fee.
While Napoli, the newly crowned Serie A champions, have been actively pursuing David, Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio now reports that Juventus have taken the initiative, pushing ahead with talks and hoping to secure a deal before other contenders step in.
At Juventus, major changes are expected this summer, especially in attack. The club is planning to sell Dušan Vlahović, opening up space and funds for a new forward line. In addition to Jonathan David, Juventus are also monitoring Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, although his price tag remains significantly higher.
David enjoyed another strong campaign with Lille, scoring 16 goals and adding five assists in Ligue 1. He leaves the French side having established himself as one of the top forwards in the league, and a reliable option for clubs needing a modern, mobile striker.
With Juventus aggressively restructuring under their new sporting project, David could be a cornerstone of the club’s new era—and it appears the Bianconeri are now closer than Napoli to landing his signature.
