Belgium survived a dramatic scare in Brussels as Kevin De Bruyne’s late winner sealed a 4-3 victory over Wales in a breathtaking World Cup qualifier.
The match started with total Belgian dominance. Goals from Romelu Lukaku, Youri Tielemans, and Jeremy Doku saw the hosts race to a commanding 3-0 lead.
However, Wales refused to fold. In a stunning comeback, they netted three times by the 70th minute to level the score and silence the home crowd.
Just as Belgium looked set for a disappointing draw that would dent their qualification hopes, De Bruyne stepped up in the 88th minute. He buried a low cross from the right to restore Belgium’s lead and send the crowd into wild celebration.
De Bruyne played the match as a free agent, amid cooling rumours of a move to Napoli. His match-winning performance may now spark renewed interest in his next move.
This crucial victory keeps Belgium firmly in the hunt for World Cup 2026 qualification, while Wales are left to reflect on what might have been after a heroic but ultimately fruitless comeback.
