If Dutch strategist Erik ten Hag is forced to leave his position at Manchester United, a heated competition for one of football's most attractive yet challenging jobs will ensue.

English media have suggested a surprising candidate who might outshine the competition and ascend to the Red Devils' bench. The club has reportedly initiated contact with representatives of Kieran McKenna, the current coach of Ipswich Town. The young strategist has led Ipswich to two consecutive promotions, attracting serious interest from several Premier League clubs.

McKenna has strong ties to the Red Devils. He spent six consecutive years at the club as part of the coaching staff before deciding to start his solo coaching career at Ipswich in 2021.

McKenna is reportedly very popular in Manchester, with the club's top brass holding him in high regard. His achievements with Ipswich, guiding them to the Premier League for the first time since 2002, have only bolstered his reputation.

The 38-year-old Northern Irishman has a solid contract with Ipswich until 2027, and the club is confident he will lead them in the Premier League. However, if a bigger club is determined to secure his services, they will need to make a substantial financial offer.

McKenna joined the Red Devils from Tottenham in 2016, initially leading the U18 team before becoming one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's assistants.
