Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored and assisted twice after coming off the bench to lead PSG to a 5-2 Champions League victory over Chelsea.
Chelsea looked set for a positive result in Paris, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia turned the match around in spectacular fashion and powered PSG to a commanding 5-2 victory.
For more than an hour at the Parc des Princes, Chelsea remained firmly in the contest. The London side twice responded to PSG goals and held a valuable 2-2 scoreline, which offered hope before the return leg.
The turning point arrived in the 62nd minute. PSG coach Luis Enrique introduced Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in place of Desire Doue, and the Georgian immediately changed the rhythm of the match.
The winger exploded into action and delivered a decisive performance in less than 30 minutes. Kvaratskhelia scored one goal and produced two assists, pushing PSG from a tense draw to a dominant 5-2 lead.
The outstanding contribution earned the Georgian star the award for man of the match.
"It was a great match. We tried to play until the very end and completed our task. Winning by three goals against Chelsea is very important for the return match, but we are already focused on the next game. Nothing is decided yet," said Kvaratskhelia.
The attacker also explained PSG’s mindset after taking the lead.
"At 3-2 and 4-2, we wanted to score even more goals. We worked very well across the entire pitch, both in attack and defence. Personally, I am happy I could help the team," he added.
For Chelsea, the final half hour in Paris turned into a nightmare. For PSG, it became the perfect example of how one inspired substitution can completely change a Champions League night.
