After a decade of chasing trophies, Kyle Walker will join Burnley on a two-year deal. At 35, the former Man City star is preparing for his first Premier League survival battle.
Kyle Walker's glittering era at the top of football is officially over. The long-time Manchester City and England international has chosen a new chapter—one that swaps title races for a relegation fight.
According to English media reports, Walker will join Premier League returnees Burnley, signing a two-year contract with the club. The 35-year-old full-back is expected to bring valuable experience and leadership to a young side fighting to stay in England’s top flight.
The deal is structured with performance clauses. The reported £5 million transfer fee will only be triggered if Burnley avoid relegation and Walker features in at least 70% of the matches for which he is available.
Walker spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan, making 11 appearances in Serie A. However, his performances were not convincing enough for the Italian club to activate a permanent transfer. He now returns to England, but not to the elite he once ruled with City.
This will be the first time in Walker’s career where survival—not silverware—is the main objective. After winning multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups, Carabao Cups, and a Champions League with Manchester City, the veteran defender is stepping into a very different kind of pressure.
For Burnley, the signing is a statement of intent. The club is counting on Walker’s experience to anchor their backline and guide them through what is likely to be a demanding campaign. For Walker, it's a humbling and gritty new chapter—but one that may define the twilight of his storied career.
