Kyle Walker shared that David Beckham slid into his Instagram DMs with a good luck message before his AC Milan switch, even blessing his decision to wear Beckham’s former No.32 shirt.
Kyle Walker has revealed that David Beckham personally wished him well ahead of his loan move to AC Milan, sending a message via Instagram to offer support and encouragement.
In a recent episode of the Kyle Walker Podcast, the Manchester City full-back shared that it was Beckham — not the other way around — who reached out first. When asked if he contacted the former England captain before the transfer, Walker replied:
"Wrong. Wrong... I didn't send him a message. He messaged me, which was very nice. Not directly — it was through Instagram. The people who run my Instagram told me and said, 'We think you probably should reply to this message.'"
Walker also revealed that Beckham had no issues with him taking the No.32 shirt — the same number Beckham wore during his own time at AC Milan in 2009 and 2010.
"He messaged me, and I said, ‘I hope you don't mind me taking your number’. He said, ‘No, it's an honour; do it proud’," Walker had previously told GQ Magazine.
Despite the warm welcome, Walker’s time in Italy has hit an early setback. He recently suffered a right elbow fracture during training, requiring surgery and ruling him out for 4–6 weeks. Milan, who had seen him as a key defensive addition with leadership qualities, are now reconsidering a permanent move. The club initially included a €5 million buy option in his short-term deal, but concerns over fitness could affect future plans.
