AC Milan full-back Kyle Walker has undergone successful surgery for a fractured elbow. The England international begins rehabilitation immediately, with hopes of returning before the season ends.

Kyle Walker has suffered a serious setback in his short spell at AC Milan, with the club confirming that the defender has undergone surgery for a fractured elbow.

Walker, who joined Milan on loan from Manchester City in January, has been one of the team’s most reliable performers, but now faces time on the sidelines during a crucial period in the season.

In a statement, AC Milan said: “Kyle Walker sustained a fracture in his right elbow today. To ensure better healing and optimize recovery time, the player underwent surgery in Milan to repair the olecranon through osteosynthesis. The operation went perfectly to plan. Kyle will begin rehabilitation immediately.”

The club did not specify a return date, but head coach Sergio Conceicao is hopeful Walker can recover before the end of the season and play a part in Milan’s push for a European qualification spot.

AC Milan currently sit ninth in Serie A, seven points behind sixth-placed Atalanta. With crucial matches against Udinese and Atalanta coming up, six points could revive their hopes of a place in Europe next season.

Walker’s leadership and experience will be missed in the coming weeks, but if his rehab goes well, he could return just in time to help Milan finish strong.
