Kylian Mbappe will miss the Madrid derby due to injury, and Real Madrid has also prohibited him from attending due to safety concerns.
Tonight marks the first Madrid derby of the season, with Atletico Madrid hosting Real Madrid in a high-stakes match labeled as one of high risk. While both teams remain unbeaten, the match has already claimed its first casualty—Kylian Mbappe.
Scheduled as part of La Liga’s 8th round, this match pits two of the league’s top clubs against each other. Real Madrid holds 17 points, while Atletico follows closely with 15. Real Madrid will be without Mbappe, Brahim Diaz, Dani Ceballos, and David Alaba. Atletico will also miss César Azpilicueta, Pablo Barrios, and potentially Thomas Lemar.
Mbappe sustained a left thigh injury during a match against Alaves, ruling him out for at least three weeks. In his absence, Carlo Ancelotti will need to tweak his strategy, though the manager remains confident: "Without Mbappe, our style of play will inevitably shift a bit, but we managed well last season without him, and I believe we can handle his absence again," Ancelotti stated.
Due to past incidents between Atletico and Real—especially those targeting Vinicius Junior—Real Madrid's management has decided that Mbappe should avoid attending the match in person, despite his desire to support his teammates from the stands.
Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid this summer from PSG as a free agent, has already made an impact with seven goals and an assist in nine matches, also helping Real claim the UEFA Super Cup this season.
