The January transfer window in La Liga was notably uneventful, with little movement on deadline day outside of a few loan deals and Real Betis completing the most significant signing.
Unlike other top European leagues, Spain’s transfer market was relatively subdued, especially with Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid remaining inactive. As a result, the final day of business lacked major excitement.
Some of the notable moves included Florian Grillitsch joining Valladolid on loan, Borna Barišić moving to Leganés, and Ivan Jaime arriving at Valencia from Porto. Additionally, Juan Bernat completed a switch to Getafe.
However, the biggest deal of the window belonged to Real Betis, who secured the return of Cucho Hernández to Europe from MLS side Columbus Crew. The Colombian forward’s transfer was valued at €13 million, and he signed a contract until June 2030.
Hernández delivered an impressive season in the United States, scoring 25 goals and providing 14 assists in 41 official appearances. Betis now hope he can replicate that form in La Liga.
