La Liga has reported a record total revenue of €5.69 billion for the 2022-23 season, an increase of 17.8% compared to the previous campaign, surpassing the €5.07 billion achieved in the 2019-20 season, La Liga announced on Monday.
The growth was driven by record commercial revenues (up 28.6%), as well as an increase in matchday revenues (up 36.9%) thanks to record stadium attendance, as clubs continued to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic for the second consecutive season.
For the first time in the history of Spanish football, La Liga surpassed the 15 million spectator mark, with an average occupancy rate of 72% for the 2022-23 season. The financial results also included extraordinary corporate operations carried out during the campaign. COVID-related restrictions impacted ticket sales and player transactions in the 2020-21 season, leading to the first revenue decline in the Spanish league since 2012.
Transfer revenues slightly increased to €679 million from €402 million a year ago but remain well below the €1.12 billion in 2019-20. A record €848 million was also invested in infrastructure, which included Real Madrid's investment in the renovation of their iconic Santiago Bernabeu stadium and its surroundings.
