Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal appears to be the new owner of Shakira and Gerard Piqué’s former €14 million mansion, confirming the move with a photo post outside the luxury property.

Lamine Yamal has seemingly confirmed plans to purchase the €14 million Barcelona mansion once owned by global pop star Shakira and former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique. The teenager hinted at the move through a now-viral Instagram post showing him facing the property’s pool and glass façade, which fans immediately recognized from the couple’s old home.

Built in 2012, the spectacular estate spans over 3,800 square feet and features indoor and outdoor pools, a private tennis court, and even a recording studio once used by Shakira herself. After the couple’s high-profile split in 2022, the property was listed for sale at €14 million (£12.5m) but remained unsold for two years, before being repriced to around €11 million (£9.5m).

According to Mundo Deportivo, the 17-year-old Barcelona star has now swooped in to take the keys, reportedly planning to move in with his cousin and a close friend. Yamal also intends to renovate and remodel large parts of the house to suit his taste, potentially turning Shakira’s old recording studio into a gaming lounge or home cinema.

The main residence includes six bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a vast open-plan living area framed by floor-to-ceiling glass walls overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Outside, the manicured garden and pool terrace offer a private retreat fit for a football superstar.

The move comes just months after Yamal signed a six-year contract with Barcelona in May, worth an estimated €30 million (£26m) per season. With performance bonuses and endorsements, Forbes estimates his total annual earnings at around $43 million (£32m), putting him among football’s highest-paid young stars alongside Lionel Messi and Jude Bellingham.

However, while Yamal’s off-field success continues to rise, his recent weeks on the pitch have been hampered by a groin injury diagnosed as pubalgia — the same issue that once affected Messi. Reports suggest Barcelona’s medical team is managing the situation carefully to avoid long-term complications.

“Pubalgia is complicated,” Messi said in a past interview. “It’s not something that can be fixed overnight. You can feel better, but it needs constant treatment.”

Despite the setback, Hansi Flick confirmed that Yamal remains central to his plans. “He’s fine,” said the Barcelona coach. “Some days he still feels a bit of pain, but he’s progressing well.”

Barcelona, currently five points behind Real Madrid, will face Elche on Sunday as they continue their chase for the La Liga title. Yamal is expected to start, while Pedri remains sidelined following a minor setback after El Clásico.
