Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal has been warned that talent alone will not be enough to reach Lionel Messi’s heights, with humility and consistency key to his long-term success.
Lamine Yamal has been urged to follow the example of Lionel Messi if he is to become what some already describe as the future “God of football.”
The Barcelona teenager has been compared to Messi ever since his breakthrough at 15. Now 18, Yamal has already won La Liga and Euro 2024 with Spain, achievements that Messi had not matched at the same age. He is even being tipped as a future Ballon d’Or contender.
However, experts warn that natural ability will not be enough. According to Mundo Deportivo: “There’s no need to compare them, because Leo’s achievements are practically unattainable. Just as was done with Leo, Lamine must be nurtured and warned that if he wants to be crowned the God of football, he can’t fall into the temptation of thinking that his immense talent will be enough.”
The advice is clear: Yamal must maintain humility, consistency, and commitment to the team, avoiding ego pitfalls that could derail his progress. Coach Hansi Flick is said to have already raised concerns about this risk, while Yamal himself recently admitted “he must raise his level.”
Having inherited Barcelona’s iconic No.10 shirt once worn by Messi, Yamal continues to produce remarkable performances. But with increased scrutiny on his private life, the youngster is being reminded that staying grounded will be as important as his talent in reaching the very top.
