Las Palmas captain Kirian Rodriguez has announced that he will temporarily step away from football to battle cancer for the second time.
The Spanish club has been deeply shaken by the news that their leader and key player is once again facing a fight against Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.
Rodriguez was first diagnosed during the 2022/23 season but returned to the pitch after successful treatment. Unfortunately, his latest medical examinations confirmed that the disease has relapsed.
"Yesterday I was informed that the cancer had returned. I will not play for the next six months, as I will have to deal with the disease again. I sincerely hope to see you again in the same place next season, as I am convinced that Las Palmas will remain in the league," Rodriguez said.
The 27-year-old has spent most of his career at Las Palmas and has been an integral part of the squad. This season, he has made 21 appearances and contributed three assists for the Canary Islands club.
