Lautaro Martínez expresses confidence in Inter Milan’s ability to win the Champions League this season, emphasizing the team’s winning mentality and readiness to compete for trophies.
Lautaro Martínez came close to achieving a dream double last year—winning both the World Cup in Qatar 2022 and the UEFA Champions League 2022/2023. However, his Inter Milan side fell short in the final, losing 1–0 to Manchester City, with Rodri Hernández scoring the decisive goal. Securing the Champions League title remains one of the few major trophies missing in Lautaro's illustrious career, but the Argentine striker is optimistic that this could be the season to fill that gap.
Under the leadership of Simone Inzaghi, Inter Milan is shaping up to be one of the strong contenders in the current Champions League campaign. The Nerazzurri are currently second in their group stage standings and are one of only three undefeated teams left in the competition, alongside Liverpool (leading with a perfect record) and Atalanta. Adding to their confidence, Yan Sommer is the only goalkeeper in the Champions League yet to concede a goal this season.
With Manchester City and Real Madrid not displaying the dominance they’ve shown in recent seasons, Inter Milan seems well-positioned to aim for the final, which will take place at the Allianz Arena in Munich on May 30.
Speaking about this ambition, Inter’s captain and star forward, Lautaro Martínez, shared his thoughts after receiving two major accolades—MVP of the Season and Serie A Top Scorer—at the Gran Gala del Calcio.
"As I always say, we have to think match by match. We know the schedule is tight, but we’re adapting, as we’ve been doing so far. Our job is to go out on the pitch and give our best. We can always do better, improving and raising our level together in every training session. Last season was beautiful and very satisfying, with the second star [Serie A title] being our main objective," said Lautaro.
He also emphasized the team’s mentality: "In the locker room, we always talk about it: we need a winning mindset to bring even more trophies to Inter, as we’ve been doing in recent years. The goal is to win the league and the Champions League."
