Leandro Paredes will not be joining Boca Juniors this winter, as negotiations with AS Roma fell through. A summer return remains a possibility.
Leandro Paredes will not be joining Boca Juniors in this winter transfer window, despite intense negotiations between AS Roma and the Argentine club in recent days.
The World Cup-winning midfielder has struggled for minutes under Claudio Ranieri, featuring in just 1,241 minutes across 20 matches, contributing one goal and two assists this season.
Paredes, a former PSG and Juventus midfielder, has been a key player in most teams he has played for, especially during his first spell at Roma and his years at Boca.
The 29-year-old started his career at Boca Juniors (2012-2015) before moving to Europe, where he had spells at Hellas Verona, Roma, Empoli, Zenit Saint Petersburg, PSG, and Juventus. In 2023, he returned to Roma.
A return to Boca seemed on the cards, with manager Diego Martínez eager to welcome him back, but contract talks with his agent stalled, preventing the move from materializing.
While this transfer window is closed, the summer market could offer another opportunity for the "prodigal son" to return home.
