RB Leipzig suffered a 2–3 home defeat to Stuttgart, finishing seventh in the Bundesliga. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Benjamin Šeško and Xavi Simons will leave the club this summer.
RB Leipzig have endured a disastrous end to their Bundesliga campaign, losing 2–3 at home to Stuttgart in the final round and crashing out of European qualification for the first time since the 2016/17 season.
The defeat saw Leipzig finish seventh in the table, missing out on Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League football. It marks a sharp fall from grace for a club that has been a consistent presence in European competitions and a regular in the Champions League.
The consequences of the collapse were immediate. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported shortly after full time that two of the club’s biggest stars, Xavi Simons and Benjamin Šeško, will leave Leipzig in the upcoming transfer window.
“Xavi Simons and Benjamin Šeško will leave the club this summer,” Romano stated, confirming what many had speculated amid Leipzig’s late-season struggles.
Šeško, Leipzig’s standout performer this season, has attracted interest from top European clubs, and with Leipzig out of Europe, his departure appears inevitable. The same applies to Simons, who has been on loan from PSG and is expected to return or move on elsewhere.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Borussia Dortmund secured Champions League spots. Freiburg and the DFB-Pokal winner (either Stuttgart or Bielefeld) will play in the Europa League, while Mainz qualified for the Conference League.
