Lens fans protested against PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi with a banner accusing him of damaging Ligue 1.
Lens supporters delivered a strong public protest against Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi during the delayed Ligue 1 clash between the two clubs.
Before kickoff, home fans unveiled a huge banner carrying a direct and controversial message:
“Nasser is killing Ligue 1.”
The protest refers to the growing frustration among several French clubs regarding PSG’s influence over domestic football decisions.
The anger intensified earlier this year after the French Football League postponed the original match date between Lens and PSG.
The game was initially scheduled for April 11, but league officials moved the fixture to help PSG better prepare for their Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool.
The decision immediately caused outrage inside Lens.
The club publicly criticized the process and questioned whether the interests of one club were now dominating the entire competition.
“Does this mean that the tenth largest budget in the league must adapt to the demands of the strongest?” Lens wrote in an official statement at the time.
“It is clear that the interests of some already exceed the domestic competition.”
Lens also pointed toward several controversial structural changes introduced in recent years.
Those changes included reducing Ligue 1 from 20 clubs to 18 and abolishing the French League Cup.
Critics increasingly believe French football is becoming too dependent on PSG’s European ambitions.
PSG, meanwhile, continue defending their position.
The Paris club insist their success in Europe benefits all of French football through UEFA coefficient points, financial exposure, and international prestige.
Every Champions League victory by PSG helps improve France’s ranking in European competitions.
Still, many supporters across the country feel the balance inside Ligue 1 is disappearing.
PSG’s financial power and domestic dominance have led to repeated complaints about competitiveness within the league.
The banner from Lens fans reflects a growing frustration among traditional clubs who believe French football increasingly revolves around the interests of the Paris giants.
As PSG continue collecting trophies and expanding their influence, tensions across Ligue 1 appear far from over.
