Myles Lewis-Skelly thought his England call-up had arrived—only to find out the mystery caller was a food delivery for his mum. He was named in Tuchel’s first England squad the following day.

Myles Lewis-Skelly has had a breakout season with Arsenal, earning his first senior call-up to the England national team under new manager Thomas Tuchel. But before the official announcement, the young defender experienced a humorous false alarm.

In an interview with fellow England teammates Declan Rice and Dan Burn, Lewis-Skelly recounted the moment he thought he was receiving *the call*—only for it to be something entirely different.

“The day before the list was published, I was talking to a friend on the phone, and then I got a call from an unknown number. I thought it was the coach!” he said. “I hung up on my friend, took a deep breath, and answered… it was just a food delivery for my mother!”

The story had Rice and Burn laughing, and it perfectly captures the nerves and excitement surrounding a player's first senior international opportunity.

Dream debut incoming?

Lewis-Skelly is expected to be involved in England’s World Cup qualifier against Albania tonight at Wembley, where Tuchel will also make his debut as Three Lions boss.

The Arsenal youngster has become a regular in Mikel Arteta’s side this season and could make his international debut alongside Dan Burn, who is also hoping to earn his first England cap.
