Lionel Messi scored his 899th career goal as Inter Miami beat D.C. United 2-1. The Argentine superstar now moves closer to the historic 1000-goal milestone.
Lionel Messi continues to push toward another historic milestone after scoring in Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory away at D.C. United in the MLS.
The Argentine superstar produced a moment of brilliance with a precise lob to extend Miami’s lead during the match. The goal moved him to 899 goals in his professional career.
After a surprising defeat in the opening round of the new season, Inter Miami has now recovered quickly and collected another important three points.
Midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, Messi’s long-time teammate with Argentina, also played a key role in the victory and helped control the match during long phases.
The team now turns its attention to continental competition. Inter Miami will face Nashville in the CONCACAF Champions League before returning to league action against Charlotte just one day later.
Messi’s scoring numbers remain extraordinary. Across his career, he has recorded:
• 672 goals for Barcelona
• 115 goals for Argentina
• 32 goals for Paris Saint-Germain
• 79 goals for Inter Miami
The Argentine joined Inter Miami in 2023 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. He later extended his contract with the club owned by David Beckham, keeping him in the MLS until 2028.
Another opportunity to increase his tally will arrive this summer during the FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
If his scoring pace continues, the question becomes increasingly realistic: will Lionel Messi reach the legendary 1000 goal mark before the end of his career?
