Liverpool face a major decision as Al Ittihad line up a huge offer for Mohamed Salah, with the Egyptian entering the final year of his contract and minutes becoming a growing issue.

Mohamed Salah could be approaching the final chapter of his Liverpool career, with reports claiming Al Ittihad are preparing an astronomical bid for the Egyptian forward.

According to TeamTalk, the Saudi club have identified Salah as their top target after Karim Benzema completed a late switch from Al Ittihad to Al Hilal. The move has reshaped the Saudi transfer landscape and placed renewed focus on the Liverpool star.

Salah’s situation at Anfield has grown more complicated in recent months. A public disagreement with head coach Arne Slot in December resulted in the forward starting three consecutive matches on the bench. While both sides later played down the issue, doubts remain over his long-term role.

Form has also become part of the discussion. Salah has scored just one goal since November 1, a sharp contrast to his usual output. With the winger turning 34 in July and entering the final year of his contract this summer, Liverpool’s owners FSG face a difficult choice.

Saudi sources claim Al Ittihad is ready to test Liverpool’s resolve with a bid large enough to force internal debate. The idea of securing a major fee before Salah’s value declines further appeals to some inside the industry.

Media opinion remains divided. Respected journalist David Ornstein has stated Liverpool originally planned to keep Salah until his contract expires in 2027. Even he accepts the stance may shift if tensions resurface or his role continues to diminish.

Minutes appear central to the decision. Journalist Graeme Bailey previously reported that Salah has no intention of becoming a squad player. Liverpool, he said, has already begun planning for life after their long-serving star.

“They are already planning who will succeed him, whether next year or the year after,” Bailey said. “Even if he performs, there is a real chance he leaves next summer.”

Liverpool’s recent spending underlines that transition. The club invested close to £300 million on Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, a clear signal that the attacking rebuild has begun.

Whether Salah stays to the end of his deal or leaves in a blockbuster Saudi move, signs suggest Liverpool are preparing for a future without one of the defining players of the Premier League era.
