Liverpool have made their opening move for Bradley Barcola, but Paris Saint-Germain have responded with a clear message: pay a record fee or forget about the deal.
According to multiple reports, the Premier League champions submitted their first official offer for the France international on Monday, with the proposal reportedly worth more than €100 million.
PSG immediately rejected the bid.
The French champions are reportedly demanding around €170 million, a fee that would make Barcola one of the most expensive players in football history.
Liverpool see him as Salah's long-term successor
Liverpool view the 22-year-old winger as the ideal long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, who has been the club's attacking leader for years.
Barcola has developed into one of Europe's most exciting wide forwards and enjoyed another outstanding campaign last season, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in 49 appearances for PSG.
His reputation grew even further at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he scored three goals and registered one assist for France.
Contract situation gives Liverpool hope
One factor encouraging Liverpool is Barcola's contract situation.
Reports suggest the winger has no intention of extending his current deal, which expires in the summer of 2028.
The Reds hope that stance will eventually persuade PSG to negotiate, even though there remains a significant gap between the two clubs' valuations.
If Liverpool ultimately meet PSG's demands, Barcola would become the most expensive signing in the club's history.
PSG preparing for life with another winger
Another interesting element in the story is PSG's expected signing of Mika Godts from Ajax.
The Belgian winger operates in the same position as Barcola, leading to fresh speculation that the French giants could eventually be willing to cash in if the right offer arrives.
For now, however, PSG's position remains unchanged. Liverpool have made the first move, but unless they are prepared to significantly increase their offer, Barcola looks set to remain in Paris.
