Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has revealed he is receiving cancer treatment while asking supporters and media to respect his family’s privacy.
The football world woke up to worrying news as Sir Kenny Dalglish confirmed he is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. The legendary former Liverpool player and manager shared the update personally after, according to him, information about his diagnosis unintentionally became public.
The 75-year-old Scot addressed supporters with the humour that defined much of his career and immediately tried to reassure those concerned about his health.
"I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well," Dalglish wrote.
Despite speaking publicly, Dalglish made it clear this was never something he planned to announce.
"Ideally, this would have remained a private matter, but my poor technological skills have forced me to speak out publicly. Please respect the privacy of my family and me," he added.
Dalglish remains one of the biggest figures in Liverpool history and one of Scottish football’s greatest names. His professional career started at Celtic, where he scored 167 goals in 320 matches between 1969 and 1977 before moving to Anfield in what became one of the defining transfers in British football history.
At Liverpool, Dalglish transformed into a club icon. He made 515 appearances for the Reds, won multiple league titles and European Cups, and later returned to guide the club from the dugout, playing a central role during one of the most successful periods in Liverpool’s history.
His influence extended internationally too. Dalglish represented Scotland 102 times, scored 30 goals, and remains one of the most celebrated players ever produced by the country.
Liverpool quickly responded after the announcement, publishing a message supporting one of the club’s greatest figures.
"The support, well wishes, and love of everyone at Liverpool FC are and will be with Kenny and his family. At the same time, we ask that his wishes for privacy be respected."
For now, the message from Dalglish himself offered the biggest source of encouragement.
The treatment is going well.
