Liverpool has set their sights on Jeremie Frimpong as the ideal successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to join Real Madrid this summer.
The English full-back, known for his unique hybrid role between defence and midfield, has been pivotal for Liverpool over recent years, often dictating the tempo of attacks and contributing heavily in the final third. With his anticipated departure to Spain, the club has had to seek out a replacement who brings a similarly dynamic skill set.
Enter Jeremie Frimpong. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Bayer Leverkusen full-back is Liverpool’s top target. Frimpong, who has already racked up 12 assists this season, has emerged as one of Europe’s most prolific attacking defenders. His career tally of 30 goals and 44 assists in 190 games speaks volumes about his attacking threat — stats that even many wingers would envy.
The 23-year-old Dutch international is under contract at Leverkusen until 2028, but there is a €35 million release clause in his deal. Romano reports that Frimpong has already given the green light for a move to Anfield, and that talks are underway between the clubs.
“Liverpool are confident he fits the profile perfectly,” Romano added. “They see him as a direct replacement with an equally aggressive attacking output.”
Should the deal go through, Liverpool would be adding one of the most complete attacking full-backs in the game today — and arguably the closest stylistic match to Alexander-Arnold available on the market.
