Liverpool are reportedly determined to keep Virgil van Dijk for the final year of his contract despite growing transfer interest following the Netherlands' World Cup exit.

Liverpool have no intention of selling captain Virgil van Dijk this summer despite growing speculation linking the Dutch defender with a move away from Anfield.
The 35-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, prompting reports that clubs including AC Milan and Fenerbahce are monitoring his situation ahead of the new season.
However, according to reports in England, Liverpool remain determined to keep Van Dijk until his contract expires rather than sanction a transfer during the current window.
The veteran centre-back is expected to rejoin Andoni Iraola's squad later this month after the Netherlands' disappointing exit from the 2026 World Cup.
Ronald Koeman's side were eliminated by Morocco in a penalty shootout, bringing an early end to their campaign.
Breaking his silence after the defeat, Van Dijk shared an emotional message with supporters on Instagram.
"As captain, all I ever wanted was to make this country proud. To see our World Cup end so early is heartbreaking because I know how much this team gave every single day."
"Now is about accepting that we failed, and we take full responsibility for it. I'd like to thank our travelling fans and everyone back home who believed in us and stood by us until the end. We saw you, and we felt your support every step of the way."
Liverpool's ownership group, Fenway Sports Group, has regularly preferred to keep experienced players through the final year of their contracts rather than sell them for a reduced fee.
Van Dijk signed a two-year extension in 2024 alongside Mohamed Salah, shortly after Jürgen Klopp left the club. That agreement expires next summer, and Liverpool are reportedly prepared to honour it in full.
The Reds could even benefit from Van Dijk's early World Cup exit, with the experienced defender returning for pre-season earlier than expected and eager to put international disappointment behind him.
Fellow Dutch internationals Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo are also expected back at Liverpool, determined to respond after the Netherlands' premature departure from the tournament.
For Van Dijk, the focus now shifts from World Cup heartbreak to helping Liverpool challenge for major honours during what could be his final season at Anfield.
