Liverpool have made a new €135m bid for Florian Wirtz, with Bayer Leverkusen now under pressure to respond. The German star could become the club’s record signing.

Liverpool have submitted an improved €135 million offer for Florian Wirtz, moving a step closer to landing the German playmaker, who is currently under contract with Bayer Leverkusen.

The new proposal includes €119 million in guaranteed payments, with the remaining €16 million in performance-related bonuses. Talks between the two clubs have been ongoing for weeks, and while Leverkusen have so far held firm on their €150 million valuation, the Premier League giants are now closer than ever to reaching an agreement.

Crucially, Wirtz is believed to have expressed his desire to join Liverpool, which has significantly influenced the negotiations. As a result, Manchester City and Bayern Munich have withdrawn from the race and are now focusing on alternative targets.

If accepted, the deal would surpass Liverpool's current transfer record, set when they signed Darwin Núñez from Benfica in 2022 in a package worth around €100 million. It would also place the Wirtz transfer among the most expensive in football history, on par with Moises Caicedo’s move to Chelsea last summer.

With Liverpool clearly prioritising Wirtz as their marquee summer addition, the ball is now in Leverkusen’s court. Should the Bundesliga side soften their stance, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder could soon become the focal point of a new era at Anfield.
