Liverpool is set to break the Hungarian transfer record by signing 20-year-old goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Puskás Akadémia, per Fabrizio Romano.
Liverpool are close to completing a deal for highly-rated Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi, who emerged as a standout performer for Puskás Akadémia this season.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 20-year-old is on the verge of moving to Anfield in a deal that will break the Hungarian transfer record. The current record stands at €6 million, paid by Eintracht Frankfurt for Krisztian Lisztes last summer.
Pecsi has drawn comparisons to Jan Oblak for his reflexes and composure, and has earned a reputation as one of Europe's most promising young goalkeepers. He prevented more goals than any other U21 goalkeeper across the top 31 European leagues this season.
The move signals Liverpool's intent to strengthen competition in goal. Current No.1 Alisson Becker and rising Georgian star Giorgi Mamardashvili are already expected to battle for the starting role next season. Pecsi’s arrival would further intensify the contest.
Pecsi’s stellar campaign has also earned him a nomination for the Golden Boy award, given to the best young footballer in Europe. His signing underlines Liverpool’s long-term planning and commitment to investing in elite young talent.
