Liverpool target World Cup sensation Ibrahim Mbaye from PSG

Liverpool are stepping up their interest in highly rated Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye, with the 18-year-old reportedly keen to leave the French champions in search of regular first-team football.

According to reports, the Premier League club are expected to open talks with PSG in the coming days. While no formal offer has yet been submitted, Liverpool are said to be serious about signing one of France's brightest young talents.

Strong competition for the Senegal international

Liverpool are not alone in the race. Bayer Leverkusen have already held direct discussions with PSG over Mbaye's future and were believed to be close to reaching an agreement.

However, the teenager is now reportedly giving priority to a move to Anfield, although he wants to assess every option before making a final decision.

Leverkusen still have reasons for optimism thanks to the strong relationship between PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the German club's leadership.

Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and RB Leipzig have also shown interest in the Senegalese winger, who has earned a reputation as one of African football's most exciting young prospects.

World Cup breakthrough

Mbaye joined PSG's academy at the age of 10 after arriving from lower-division side Versailles. He made his senior breakthrough during the 2024-25 season and scored three goals in 24 Ligue 1 appearances last year.

Known for his pace, direct dribbling and relentless work rate, Mbaye is comfortable playing on either wing despite being naturally right-footed.

His reputation grew further during the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup. Although he played only 160 minutes across four matches for Senegal, he made a significant impact.

In the dramatic match against France, Mbaye helped spark Senegal's comeback by drawing a red card for Theo Hernandez before scoring with a powerful strike.

PSG preparing for changes

Mbaye's desire to leave is largely driven by fierce competition for places at PSG. His opportunities could become even more limited if the French champions complete their reported move for Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco.

Barcola remains Liverpool's dream target

Mbaye is not the only PSG winger attracting Liverpool's attention. The Reds remain interested in Bradley Barcola and have already held preliminary discussions with the French champions.

Reports suggest Liverpool are prepared to offer around €100 million, while Barcola is believed to be open to the move.

PSG, however, are demanding an extraordinary €170 million, pointing to Barcola's outstanding World Cup performances, where he scored three goals and provided one assist for France, as well as his success in helping the club win two UEFA Champions League titles.

With the transfer window entering its final weeks, Liverpool must now decide whether to accelerate their pursuit of Mbaye or wait to see if PSG lower their asking price for Barcola before the deadline.
