Lorena Bernal shares the keys to her 23-year relationship with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, emphasising mutual growth, respect, and finding joy in life’s simplest moments.
Lorena Bernal, wife of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, has opened up about the foundation of their 23-year-long relationship, revealing that mutual respect, personal growth, and simplicity are at the heart of their enduring marriage.
The couple, who met in a nightclub in their hometown of San Sebastian, Spain, have been together since their early 20s. Married since 2010, they share three children: Gabriel (15), Daniel (12), and Oliver (10).
In an interview with Hello!, Lorena explained that one of the secrets to their strong relationship is accepting each other as individuals and growing side by side.
“You’re not there to teach them how to live; you’re there to grow next to them and support their growth,” she said. “Each person has their own rhythms, pace, and journey, and that acceptance makes it amazing.”
She also emphasised the importance of love, admiration, respect, and having fun together. Despite the demands of Arteta’s managerial role and her own work as an actress and spiritual life coach, they find joy in quiet, everyday moments.
“When we have time together, we do pretty normal things… a walk, coffee. Doing nothing together is beautiful,” she added.
Lorena, who recently published her book "It Starts With You", helps others through her work as a life coach, including models, actors, and footballers’ partners. She says living with appreciation and presence is what grounds her every day.
“No matter where I am in my life — mothering, acting, or being the wife of my husband — I embrace every day. Because every day is one day less that I have to enjoy all this.”
