LA Galaxy signs former Nacional midfielder Lucas Sanabria on a five-year deal worth $5 million, making him the fifth Uruguayan to join the MLS club.
Los Angeles Galaxy have confirmed the signing of Lucas Sanabria, the former Nacional midfielder, in a deal that underscores the club’s ambitions ahead of the upcoming MLS season. The 21-year-old Uruguayan has inked a five-year contract with the California side, keeping him at the club until the end of 2029.
The transfer, valued at $5 million, will see Nacional receive $3 million directly, with potential bonuses amounting to $2.4 million and 20% of any future resale value, according to the Uruguayan club’s recent statement.
Will Kuntz, LA Galaxy's general manager, expressed his excitement over the new signing: "Lucas has demonstrated exciting skill and intense competitiveness during his debut season with Nacional, which included multiple appearances in the CONMEBOL Libertadores and his time with Uruguay's youth national team. We have high expectations for Lucas as he joins the Galaxy family and integrates with the team in the final weeks before the season kicks off," Kuntz stated on the club’s official website.
Sanabria becomes the fifth Uruguayan to don the Galaxy jersey, following in the footsteps of Diego Polenta, Gastón Brugman, Martín Cáceres, and Diego Fagúndez.
LA Galaxy will begin their 2025 MLS regular season campaign at home against the San Diego Earthquakes on February 23.
