Luis Figo believes Didier Deschamps has the experience and authority to coach Real Madrid, pointing to his success with France and strong leadership profile.
Real Madrid legend Luis Figo believes Didier Deschamps has the profile to take charge of the Spanish giants.
Figo, who spent five years in Madrid during the early Galacticos era, spoke openly about the future of the French coach once his cycle with the national team ends.
"France should be grateful for everything Deschamps has achieved. He has exceptional quality in the national team and he could build two top teams," he told RMC Sport.
Figo sees a natural next step for Deschamps after his long spell with France.
"When he leaves the national team, he will have a new opportunity. I believe he could take over Real Madrid. He has the experience and personality to succeed in any team," he added.
Deschamps built one of the most successful international careers in modern football. He led France to the 2018 World Cup title and reached the final again in 2022, losing on penalties to Argentina.
He also won the UEFA Nations League, confirming his ability to manage elite squads under pressure.
Before his national team success, Deschamps coached Monaco, Juventus, and Marseille. His biggest club achievement came in 2010, when he won the Ligue 1 title with Marseille, along with several domestic trophies.
As a player, he ended his career in La Liga with Valencia, where he shared the dressing room with Zlatko Zahović in the 2000/01 season.
With Real Madrid expected to make a decision on their next coach, Figo’s view adds weight to the idea that Deschamps could be a serious option.
