Luka Modrić has signed a new contract with Real Madrid, extending his stay until next summer with a significantly reduced salary.
Luka Modrić has signed a new contract with Real Madrid, ensuring he remains with the club until next summer. The 38-year-old Croatian legend has accepted a substantial pay cut to continue playing for the royal club, where he has been since 2012.
Modrić's new contract reflects a dramatic decrease in his salary. Previously, he had an annual gross salary of €21.8 million. Under the new terms, his salary is reduced to €10.4 million gross for the upcoming season. This new deal aligns his earnings with those of players like Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy.
Interestingly, Modrić turned down significantly higher offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia. Despite the lucrative offers, his priority was to stay in Madrid, which he successfully achieved.
The legendary midfielder will continue his journey with Real Madrid for at least one more season, with his contract set to end on June 30, 2025. Over the past 12 years, Modrić has established himself as an absolute legend of the club, winning every possible trophy and being named the best footballer in the world in 2018.
Modrić has played 534 matches for Real Madrid, scoring 39 goals and providing 86 assists.
