Real Madrid decisively defeated Alaves with a 5-0 victory in La Liga, achieving this without the help of former Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modrić.

The Croatian midfielder remained on the bench, marking the first time in three months he didn't play in a league match, prompting a heartfelt response from the fans.

The Santiago Bernabeu has witnessed an exceptional season from Los Blancos, set to culminate with the Champions League final. Despite their dominance, this match saw Modrić benched throughout the entire game. Real Madrid supporters, true to their style, reacted passionately, initially chanting for Modrić to come on and later voicing their desire for him to stay at the club.

During the week, reports emerged that Real Madrid would not renew Modrić's contract, meaning the Croatian star might have to leave the club after 12 years. While Modrić and the public both wish for him to remain, the final decision rests with the club's management.

Modrić has reportedly agreed to a reduced salary to secure another contract with Real Madrid. However, the club's budget will be significantly strained in the coming years due to the expensive acquisition of Kylian Mbappe. Additionally, Real Madrid must adhere to La Liga's salary cap regulations.

Modrić is said to have a successor lined up at Real Madrid, with the club eyeing Arda Güler as his heir. Güler has been increasingly impressive in the Madrid jersey. After initial struggles and an injury, the young talent is now performing at full capacity, even scoring against Alaves. In his last 275 minutes, Güler has netted four goals, a remarkable statistic for a midfielder.
