Luka Modrić has broken two significant records at Real Madrid, becoming the club's oldest player to feature in a La Liga match and tying for the most trophies won in the club's history.
Today is a celebratory day at
Real Madrid, and such days often create new legends.
Luka Modrić has long been a legendary figure in Madrid, but today, the Croatian maestro has added two more entries to the club's history books, which will be extremely difficult to match, let alone surpass.
Modrić started today's match against Cadiz, becoming the oldest player ever to play in a La Liga match for the royal club. Until today, this record was held by the iconic Hungarian Ferenc Puskas, who played a match for Real Madrid at the age of 38 years and 233 days. The new record, now held by
Luka Modrić, stands at 38 years and 238 days.
This record, especially for an outfield player, seems unparalleled. Simultaneously, Modrić has entered the most elite club of four players who have won the most trophies while wearing the Real Madrid jersey, alongside defender Nacho.
Modrić and Nacho have each won their 25th trophy with the club, thereby equating them on the all-time list with their former teammates Marcelo and Karim Benzema. Given that both Modrić and Nacho are expected to leave the club this summer, they will have the chance in the Champions League to become the first two players in the club's history to win 26 trophies.
