Luka Modrić congratulated Barcelona following their dominant 5-2 victory over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.
As a seasoned leader, Modrić admitted that the loss was tough but stressed the importance of staying united for the remainder of the season.
Real Madrid players are rarely accustomed to such crushing defeats, especially in finals. However, Barcelona once again proved to be their most challenging rival, leaving Madrid outplayed and unable to respond. Amid the disappointment, Modrić emerged as the voice of reason, urging his teammates to keep their focus on the bigger picture.
Speaking after the match, Modrić said, “We didn’t expect such a defeat, but that’s football. I’m sure we’ll know how to react after such a tough loss. Now it’s important to stay united because the season is still long.”
The Croatian international also highlighted that setbacks are a part of the game. “That’s how it is in football. Football is made up of wins and losses. We lost today, and there’s nothing more to add. You can’t always win.”
Despite the painful loss to their arch-rivals, Modrić tried to find a positive outlook. “If we had to lose a title, it’s better that it happened in the Super Cup, though of course, it’s never pleasant to lose against your worst rival. We have to congratulate Barcelona because they played a great game and were better. We’ll keep working and try to correct our mistakes.”
The 39-year-old captain’s words reflect his experience and understanding of the game, as he rallied his teammates to stay focused and prepare for the crucial battles ahead in both La Liga and the Champions League.
