Luka Modrić produced a stunning solo run against Napoli that went viral, but Milan lost 1-0 as Matteo Politano secured a crucial Serie A victory.
Luka Modrić once again proved his class, delivering a moment of pure brilliance even as Milan fell 0-1 to Napoli in a tense Serie A derby.
The match at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium ultimately belonged to the home side, but the standout moment came early from the 40-year-old Croatian.
In the 11th minute, Modrić produced a remarkable solo run. After receiving the ball, he burst forward and beat three Napoli players in quick succession, leaving the crowd on their feet.
The move ended with a foul just outside the penalty area, but the action quickly spread across social media, with many pointing out how rare such moments are, even among younger players.
Former Italy international Dino Baggio also reacted to Modrić’s longevity.
"I tried to play until I was 33 or 34 and that was too much. Today, 40 is almost normal. Modrić can play for another three or four years at Milan."
Despite that brilliance, Milan struggled to control the game, especially after the break.
Napoli increased the pressure in the second half and created more dangerous situations, while Milan focused mainly on defending.
The decisive moment came in the 79th minute. Substitute Matteo Politano reacted quickly in the penalty area and finished with a precise volley past Mike Maignan.
The goal secured an important victory for Napoli, lifting them to second place in the standings.
For Milan, the gap to leaders Inter has now grown to nine points, increasing pressure in the final part of the season.
Still, one moment from Modrić ensured the match will be remembered for more than just the result.
