They say age is just a number, and in the case of Luka Modrić, this couldn’t be more true. He shone once again when Real Madrid needed him most.

The evergreen Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić came off the bench last night and just minutes later provided a brilliant assist that led to Vinicius Junior’s winning goal in the match between Celta and Real Madrid in Vigo. Following the match, Modrić received praise from coach Carlo Ancelotti, who, after all these years, is no longer surprised by the veteran’s consistent contributions.

“We secured three important points thanks to Luka Modrić’s fantastic pass. For him, this is routine, as he has immense quality. Luka always contributes, whether he starts the game or comes on as a substitute,” Ancelotti said.

Last night, Modrić also surpassed the record of the legendary Ferenc Puskás, becoming the oldest player in Real Madrid’s history. At the time of the victory, the former Dinamo Zagreb and Tottenham star was 39 years and 40 days old. He has now made 547 appearances for the Royal club.

We’ve attached a link to the stunning assist that led to Vinicius Junior’s goal for the narrow win – it was truly a masterpiece.
