Luka Topalović continues to make an excellent impression at Inter Milan, with the Slovenian midfielder earning a place in the first-team squad for the next stage of the club's pre-season preparations.
Inter leave this week for their tour of Hong Kong and Australia, where they will continue preparing for the new season. Coach Cristian Chivu has decided to keep Topalović with the senior squad after the youngster impressed during the opening weeks of training.
The reigning Serie A champions still have almost three weeks before their first competitive match of the season. Inter begin their league campaign on August 22, when they host Monza.
Before then, Chivu's side will play three more high-profile friendlies. Inter first face Manchester City in Hong Kong before travelling to Perth, where they will meet fellow Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus.
Topalović has emerged as one of the biggest positives of Inter's pre-season. The Slovenian youngster made his senior Serie A debut at the end of last season after spending most of the campaign with Inter's second team, where he gained valuable experience.
Many expected the talented midfielder to leave on loan this summer to seek regular first-team football. Instead, Chivu insisted that Topalović remain with the senior squad for pre-season, and the decision appears to have paid off.
The fact that the Slovenian has been included for the demanding overseas tour suggests the Inter coach views him as an important part of his plans heading into the new campaign. The coming weeks will give Topalović another opportunity to prove he deserves a permanent place in one of Italy's strongest squads.
Inter are also close to completing another major piece of business. Former Manchester City defender John Stones has arrived in Milan to finalize his transfer to Inter after choosing the Club despite interest from Juventus. The experienced England international is expected to complete the remaining formalities before signing his contract with the Italian champions.
