Olympique Lyonnais have turned down a €21 million offer from Galatasaray for Georges Mikautadze, with the club reluctant to part ways with their promising forward despite financial pressures.
Georges Mikautadze, a 24-year-old forward, has attracted significant attention from across Europe, but Lyon remain determined to hold onto him. According to Téléfoot journalist Saber Desfarges, the French club recently rejected an offer worth almost €21 million, including bonuses, from Galatasaray.
Mikautadze rejoined Lyon, his boyhood club, ahead of the 2024/25 season from FC Metz for a reported €18.5 million. While he struggled for form initially, the Georgian international has since made the most of limited opportunities, contributing seven goals and one assist this season. His performances have raised his profile as a key player for Lyon’s future.
The club views Mikautadze as a potential successor to veteran striker Alexandre Lacazette, whose contract expires at the end of the season. With Lacazette expected to leave, Lyon are hesitant to let go of Mikautadze unless an exceptional offer comes through.
Financial pressures at Lyon
Despite their resolve to keep Mikautadze, Lyon’s financial woes loom large. The DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog, has provisionally relegated the club due to its precarious finances. This has fueled speculation that Lyon may be forced to sell key players to stabilize their accounts.
Interest in Mikautadze is growing, with Everton and Bayer Leverkusen reportedly monitoring his situation. However, Lyon’s rejection of Galatasaray’s bid signals they are unwilling to part with him easily, despite the financial strain.
