Mallorca captain Dani Rodriguez criticized Real Madrid’s Raul Asencio for provocative behavior in the Supercopa semifinal, urging the young defender to learn respect.
The Supercopa semifinal between Real Madrid and Mallorca was not without its drama, as a heated exchange unfolded between Raul Asencio and Mallorca defender Pablo Maffeo. The young Madrid defender came to the defense of his teammate Vinicius Junior, who was on the receiving end of tough tackles from Maffeo.
Asencio’s response, however, was unconventional—blowing kisses across the pitch—sparking further tensions and irking Mallorca captain Dani Rodriguez.
Speaking after the match, Rodriguez didn’t hold back:
"I’m a bit old-fashioned and believe you should know how to win. Asencio has a lot to learn in that regard. Pablo Maffeo was upset because he was in an argument, and then a kid who has been here for two days starts behaving disrespectfully."
He added:
"Healthy conflicts stay on the pitch. I argued with Rudiger, and it ended there. Asencio behaved inappropriately. He’s new here and has a lot to learn about respect."
The exchange began when Asencio intervened during Maffeo’s confrontations with Vinicius. The fiery Mallorca defender didn’t take kindly to the provocations, leading to verbal clashes and gestures that escalated tensions. After the match, Rodriguez emphasized the importance of respecting opponents, regardless of emotions on the pitch.
