Teen defender Mamadou Sarr joins Chelsea from Strasbourg in a €14 million deal and is eligible to play at the Club World Cup.
Chelsea have completed the signing of Mamadou Sarr, a highly-rated 19-year-old defender from their affiliated club Strasbourg, just ahead of the Club World Cup registration deadline.
The transfer was initially agreed in January, and now the French youth international officially joins the Blues on a contract running until 2033. The transfer fee is reported to be around €14 million.
Sarr enjoyed a strong season in Ligue 1, showcasing his versatility and defensive intelligence, which convinced Chelsea to accelerate the move. He becomes the latest addition in the club’s long-term recruitment strategy focused on signing top young talents across Europe.
The youngster will also be available for Chelsea’s campaign at the Club World Cup later this month, giving him an early opportunity to integrate into the squad on the global stage.
Sarr’s development at Strasbourg, part of the BlueCo multi-club ownership model, reflects Chelsea’s increasing reliance on their satellite teams to identify and nurture future first-team players.
