Manchester United players support giving Harry Maguire a new contract after his strong performances and leadership influence restored his importance in the squad.

Manchester United players want the club to offer Harry Maguire a new contract, with dressing room figures reportedly insisting letting him leave would be a huge mistake.

The England defender, now 32, is entering the final year of his deal, which expires at the end of the 2025-26 season. After losing the captaincy under Erik ten Hag, Maguire rebuilt his standing and became an important figure again during Michael Carrick’s spell in charge.

Team-mates value both his performances and his influence off the pitch. He has taken responsibility inside the squad, especially guiding younger defenders such as Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven.

According to reports from inside the club, players believe refusing to extend his contract would be “madness” because of his experience and consistency.

Maguire joined United from Leicester City in 2019 for £80 million and endured heavy criticism across several seasons. His recent form, composure, and leadership have changed perceptions among supporters and within the dressing room.

If negotiations begin, the club is expected to propose a reduced basic salary compared to his current £190,000 weekly wage, with bonuses linked to appearances and performances.

The defender holds leverage in talks because he is free to negotiate with foreign clubs. AC Milan showed interest earlier, while teams from Turkey also contacted his representatives.

Manchester United must now decide whether to keep an experienced leader who regained trust on the pitch or risk losing him without a transfer fee.
