Manchester City have reached an agreement with Lyon to sign French midfielder Rayan Cherki in a deal worth €35 million, according to reports from L'Équipe. The 21-year-old will sign a five-year contract and is expected to be registered in time for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
Cherki had been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund, but City’s persistence and long-term vision ultimately won the race for one of France's brightest young talents. His standout season at Lyon—12 goals and 20 assists in 44 appearances—culminated in a sensational debut goal for the national team against Spain in the Nations League semifinals.
City see Cherki as a key piece for the future, potentially one who could inherit the creative mantle from Kevin De Bruyne, whose career is entering its later stages. With his vision, flair, and ability to unlock defences, Cherki is viewed as a natural successor in the heart of midfield.
