Claudio Echeverri, one of Argentina’s most exciting young talents, has officially joined Manchester City, marking the start of his European football journey under Pep Guardiola.
The highly-rated forward initially secured his move to City earlier but remained at River Plate on loan for the first half of the season. Now, after making 48 senior appearances for the Argentine giants, scoring four goals and providing eight assists, he is ready for the challenge of English football.
Echeverri, also known as ‘Diablito’, arrives in Manchester fresh from captaining Argentina’s U20 team to the final of the South American Youth Championship, where he delivered an outstanding individual performance. The 18-year-old netted six goals and registered three assists in nine appearances, further cementing his status as one of the most promising players of his generation.
Now, the challenge shifts to earning a place in Guardiola’s squad, something Echeverri is eager to prove himself worthy of.
"Manchester City are one of the best teams in the world. They win trophies and play a wonderful style of football. I'm very happy to be a part of this club and to be able to develop here. I'll do everything I can to prove myself to the coach and earn a place in his team. I'm incredibly proud to finally be able to say I'm a Manchester City player," said Echeverri.
City paid €20 million for the Argentine prodigy, who has signed a contract until the summer of 2028. Now, all eyes will be on how Guardiola integrates the youngster into his star-studded squad.
