Gvardiol has committed his long-term future to Manchester City, signing a new contract that will keep the Croatian defender at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.

Manchester City have officially ended speculation over Joško Gvardiol's future after announcing that the Croatian defender has signed a new long-term contract until the summer of 2031.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League's outstanding defenders since arriving from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023. His new five-year extension confirms his commitment to Pep Guardiola's side and ends months of reports linking him with a move to Bayern Munich.
Gvardiol has already made 122 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 13 goals while helping the club win six major trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the Community Shield.
The Croatian international has also become a key figure for his national team. He has earned 52 caps for Croatia and represented his country at the 2026 World Cup.
After signing his new deal, Gvardiol admitted the decision was an easy one.
"When I found out that the club wanted to extend my contract, I didn't hesitate for a moment. This is exactly what I wanted."
The defender also praised the atmosphere at the club and the support he has received since arriving in England.
"The fans welcomed me incredibly from day one. The club gives its players everything they need. This is the best club in the world. During these three years, I have felt so much respect and support, and I never take that for granted."
Gvardiol believes Manchester City's success is far from over.
"We have an extremely strong and young team with enormous potential. I truly believe we will win many more trophies in the coming years."
By putting pen to paper on a new contract, Gvardiol has also brought an end to months of transfer speculation. Despite repeated reports linking him with Bayern Munich, the Croatian has made it clear that he sees his future at the Etihad Stadium, where he hopes to spend the best years of his career.
