Manchester United have agreed a deal with Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson as the club moves quickly after Casemiro’s departure.
Manchester United have found their replacement for Casemiro and the deal is practically complete. Only medical examinations remain before Brazilian midfielder Ederson officially becomes a new player at Old Trafford.
After reaching an agreement with the player earlier in the process, United have now also finalised negotiations with Atalanta. The English club will reportedly pay a fixed fee of €40.5 million, while bonuses could increase the total package by another €4.5 million.
The 26-year-old midfielder is expected to sign a four-year contract, with an option for an additional season included in the agreement.
Ederson becomes the first major reinforcement for new Manchester United manager Michael Carrick and arrives at a moment when rebuilding the midfield became one of the club’s biggest priorities following the departure of Casemiro.
United are not expected to stop here either.
Reports from England suggest the club still wants another midfielder before the transfer window closes as Carrick reshapes the squad for a new era.
Ederson arrives after establishing himself as one of Serie A’s most reliable midfielders during four seasons with Atalanta. Before moving to Bergamo, he also played for Salernitana, Corinthians, Fortaleza and Cruzeiro.
There is one disappointment this summer.
Despite appearing on Brazil’s extended squad list, Ederson failed to secure a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s final selection for the upcoming World Cup.
Instead of preparing for the tournament, he will now focus on another huge challenge.
Replacing one of Manchester United’s biggest names in midfield.
He will not do it alone either.
United supporters are already excited about seeing him line up alongside Benjamin Šeško as the club’s rebuild gathers speed.
