Manchester United’s appeal for Bruno Fernandes’ red card has been successful, meaning the captain will not miss three Premier League matches.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has successfully appealed against the red card he received in the recent Premier League match against Tottenham. Originally set to miss three matches, Fernandes will now be available for the upcoming fixtures, starting with the match against Aston Villa.
The Portuguese playmaker was sent off after a tackle that appeared more accidental than malicious. As he slipped, his foot unintentionally struck a Tottenham player, which resulted in a red card. The decision surprised many, including Fernandes himself, who expressed confusion over the call. Several pundits in England also questioned why VAR didn’t intervene, as the replays made it clear that the foul was not as severe as initially perceived.
The FA's decision to overturn the suspension comes as a relief for Manchester United, who rely heavily on Fernandes' creativity and leadership. Fernandes, who is yet to score this season but has provided four assists in nine matches, is considered one of the most important players under Erik Ten Hag.
United now turn their attention to their Europa League clash against Porto in the group stage, before resuming their Premier League campaign.
