Joshua Zirkzee scored a sensational solo goal as Manchester United opened their pre-season campaign with a commanding 5-0 victory over Rosenborg.

Manchester United could hardly have asked for a better start to their pre-season preparations, comfortably defeating Rosenborg 5-0 in Norway. The undisputed highlight of the evening came from Joshua Zirkzee, whose brilliant individual goal stole the headlines.
With many first-team stars still unavailable following their involvement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Michael Carrick named a youthful side. Captain Bruno Fernandes and new signing Matheus Cunha were among those absent, while Benjamin Šeško also missed the match as he continues to recover from a shin injury.
United took control through academy talent Shea Lacey, who opened the scoring after being picked out by summer arrival Andrey Santos. The goal settled the Premier League side, who dominated possession and created chances throughout the contest.
The moment everyone will remember arrived in the 56th minute. Receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty area, Zirkzee danced past three Rosenborg defenders with outstanding close control before calmly slotting his finish beyond goalkeeper Sandberg. It was one of the finest individual goals seen during this summer's pre-season schedule.
Devaney, Harry Amass and Ethan Williams added further goals as Manchester United completed an emphatic victory without ever looking troubled.
Carrick also relied on several experienced players, including Bryan Mbeumo, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro, while giving valuable minutes to several promising youngsters.
Manchester United will now continue their preparations with friendlies against Atlético Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds United and AC Milan before beginning the new Premier League season against Hull City.
The victory also reignited speculation surrounding Zirkzee's future. Italian media continue to report that Juventus are pushing to sign the Dutch striker, raising the possibility that his spectacular effort against Rosenborg could prove to be his final goal in a Manchester United shirt.
