Manchester United beat Liverpool 3-2 after a dominant first half, but concern grows over Benjamin Šeško, who scored before leaving the match at halftime.
Manchester United claimed a dramatic 3-2 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford, in a derby that delivered intensity, mistakes, and a late winner.
Benjamin Šeško started the match and played a key role in a strong first half from the home side.
Dream start for United
United pressed from the first minute and took the lead early. In the sixth minute, Matheus Cunha reacted quickly after a clearance and scored his ninth league goal of the season.
The second goal came in the 14th minute. Luke Shaw sent in a cross, Bruno Fernandes was involved in the move, and Šeško reacted fastest after a deflection to make it 2-0.
United created two more clear chances before halftime but failed to extend the lead. Liverpool offered little going forward, and the first half ended with a comfortable advantage for the hosts.
Shock after the break
The momentum changed quickly. Šeško did not return for the second half, raising concerns about a possible injury.
His replacement, Amad Diallo, made a costly mistake in the 48th minute. Dominik Szoboszlai intercepted the pass, beat Harry Maguire, and scored to reduce the deficit.
Eight minutes later, another error punished United. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens misplaced a pass, allowing Alexis Mac Allister to set up Szoboszlai, who assisted Cody Gakpo for a simple finish and 2-2.
Mainoo seals the win
Liverpool controlled the second half for a period, while United struggled to recover.
The decisive moment came in the 77th minute. Kobbie Mainoo struck from the edge of the box and scored to restore the lead at 3-2.
Liverpool could not find another response, and United held on to secure a valuable win.
The result brings relief for coach Michael Carrick, but attention now turns to Šeško’s condition after his early exit.
