Rasmus Hojlund saved Manchester United from another Premier League defeat with a stoppage-time equaliser at Bournemouth, as United’s struggles under Ruben Amorim continued.

Rasmus Hojlund spared Manchester United another embarrassing defeat by scoring a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with 10-man Bournemouth.

Ruben Amorim’s side were stunned when Antoine Semenyo fired Bournemouth ahead in the first half at the Vitality Stadium. United’s fortunes shifted with 20 minutes left when Bournemouth’s Evanilson was controversially sent off following a VAR review.

Originally shown a yellow card for a tackle on Noussair Mazraoui, Evanilson’s punishment was upgraded to a red, even though replays suggested he slipped before making contact.

Staring at a fourth defeat in five league matches, United snatched a point when Hojlund pounced deep into stoppage-time. Yet the late goal did little to mask another dismal display, with United languishing in 14th place and desperate for a reset next season.

Meanwhile, bitter rivals Liverpool are on the verge of winning their 20th English title, equalling United’s record and further underlining the dramatic gulf between the two clubs.

Amorim’s ongoing struggle
Despite claiming he has "no regrets" about joining United midseason, Amorim’s tenure has been torrid. Since replacing Erik ten Hag in November, he has overseen just six league wins, guaranteeing United their lowest points total in the Premier League era and potentially their worst finish since 1974.

United’s last chance for a positive ending remains in the Europa League, where they face Athletic Bilbao in Thursday’s semi-final first leg — but performances will need to improve drastically.

United leave it late again
Amorim made five changes after last weekend’s defeat to Wolves, including deploying Luke Shaw as a makeshift central defender in his first start since February 2024.

Kobbie Mainoo forced an early save from Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Alejandro Garnacho flashed a fierce strike just wide. But the early promise evaporated when Semenyo capitalized on a United defensive error to drill Bournemouth ahead in the 23rd minute.

United nearly conceded again when Dango Ouattara hit the post with a long-range effort. They were handed a lifeline when Evanilson was shown red, yet still looked set to lose until deep into added time.

In the 96th minute, Shaw’s cross was flicked on by Manuel Ugarte and Hojlund reacted quickest, poking home from close range to salvage a point — and keep United’s season from spiraling further out of control.
