Manchester United players openly mocked Alejandro Garnacho after beating Chelsea, exposing deep tensions following his controversial exit last summer.
Manchester United’s dressing room sent a clear message after their 1-0 win over Chelsea, as tensions with former teammate Alejandro Garnacho spilled into the open.
The Argentine winger, who forced a move to Stamford Bridge last summer, returned to face his former club in a charged atmosphere that continued after the final whistle.
Social media mockery
Shortly after the match, Luke Shaw posted an image of himself physically dominating Garnacho, adding the caption "important win."
Bruno Fernandes reacted immediately, posting a GIF that read "That’s a violation," while Alex Telles added fire emojis in support.
Wayne Rooney also liked the post, reinforcing the sense of unity within the Manchester United squad against their former teammate.
Fallout from controversial exit
The tension traces back to Garnacho’s departure from Old Trafford, which followed a public fallout with former coach Ruben Amorim.
Before the match, the winger admitted his role in the situation.
"Maybe yes, because I loved that club. I started to be on the bench, and in my mind I had to play every game. Maybe it is also on me, I started to do some bad things," he said.
He still expressed appreciation for his time at United.
"I only have good memories. But sometimes you have to make decisions for your life," he added.
Carrick focuses on performance
Amid the tension, interim coach Michael Carrick focused on the result.
Manchester United absorbed 21 shots from Chelsea, showing strong defensive discipline.
Matheus Cunha scored the decisive goal that secured all three points.
"The defence was immense in difficult circumstances. The attitude was top-drawer," said Carrick.
Momentum builds
The win moves United ten points clear of Chelsea and keeps them firmly on course for Champions League qualification.
Carrick remains calm about his future.
"I love being here. The situation is a bit out of my hands," he said.
